Ausflugsziel Hundertwasser-Bahnhof in Uelzen

Hundertwasser Station and Uelzen town centre
“A train station as colourful as the fantastic world of fairy tales” – this was Friedensreich Hundertwasser’s vision for what was to be one of his last designs; a work with which this brilliant Viennese artist made a unique mark on this small rural town, transforming it into a showcase of art and culture. Discover the stunning, fairy tale-like station and marvel at its unforgettable golden spheres, dazzlingly colourful mosaics and curved floors on your stroll through the town centre.

Follow the “Path of Stones”, with its colourful works by artist Dagmar Glemme. In the town centre, you’ll find historic half-timbered buildings, the St. Marien Church which has the largest organ in the Lüneburg Heath region, cafés, restaurants and charming shops such as the centuries-old “Ratsweinhandlung” wine merchants. Close to the town centre, the BADUE complex entices visitors with its sports pool, diving tower, slide and spa area.

Ausflugsziel Heideblüte bei Uelzen

Heath in bloom around Uelzen
When the heath comes out in bloom in a magnificent mass of violet in August and September, the countryside around Uelzen shows itself off at its very best. Walks along sandy paths through the sea of blossom, the buzz of bees and occasional encounters with shepherds and their “Heidschnucken” moorland sheep are a real balm for the mind and soul. There are a total of seven heathlands to be explored here, including the vast Ellerndorfer Wacholderheide, the Addenstorfer Heide, with its historical burial mounds, and the romantic Bünstorfer Heide.

Whether travelling independently or with a local guide, you are guaranteed picturesque routes and destinations worth the trip.
